I have a new kite from last year that I bought BRAND NEW and I have only just noticed that it isn't measured! Does anyone know if I need to panic or with there be anything set up at the Nats to get sails officially measured?
I'm not happy, I sailed one designs for quite some time before the Scorp so never needed to have them measured, but when I used to sail GPs, the measurement was always done before the sails left the shop...What has happened? How can sail companies be selling sails that aren't "officially" Scorpion sails?
Dont panic! You do have other kites you can use so it isnt a total loss;-). or you can bent Terrys ear this week as he lives in Denton ish and he can measure it for a price or a pint or two at the nationals.
There will be various measurers at the nationals who are usually placated with a pint of beer for their time. There is even a list on the website to help you find them!
In defence of the sail companies it all depends on whether there is a measurer available who can measure the sails before they go out. If they are not free when the sails are finished then there is little that the sailmakers can do. Funnily enough no one used to be that keen on sailmakers measuring their own sails (although there is now a very expensive ISAF self certification scheme set up).
Fair point, and I suppose they don't just make Scorp sails. Only thing is they don't tell you they aren't measured when you buy them! And being stupid and from one designs, I didn't think to check!
